operations are <varname>blocking</varname> or <varname>non-blocking</varname>. If
<varname>blocking_write</varname> is <constant>CL_TRUE</constant>, the
OpenCL implementation copies the data referred to by <varname>ptr</varname>
and enqueues the write operation in the command-queue. The memory pointed
to by <varname>ptr</varname> can be reused by the application after the
<function>clEnqueueWriteBufferRect</function> call returns.

If <varname>blocking_write</varname> is <constant>CL_FALSE</constant>,
the OpenCL implementation will use <varname>ptr</varname> to perform a
nonblocking write. As the write is non-blocking the implementation can
return immediately. The memory pointed to by <varname>ptr</varname>
cannot be reused by the application after the call returns. The
<varname>event</varname> argument returns an event object which can be
used to query the execution status of the write command. When the write
command has completed, the memory pointed to by <varname>ptr</varname>
can then be reused by the application.

<varname>buffer_slice_pitch</varname> + <varname>buffer_origin</varname>[1]

and <varname>num_events_in_wait_list</varname> must be greater
than 0. The events specified in <varname>event_wait_list</varname>
act as synchronization points. The context associated with events in
<varname>event_wait_list</varname> and <varname>command_queue</varname>
must be the same. The memory associated with <varname>event_wait_list</varname> can be
reused or freed after the function returns.

Calling <function>clEnqueueWriteBufferRect</function> to update the latest bits
in a region of the buffer object with the <varname>ptr</varname> argument value
set to <varname>host_ptr</varname> and <varname>host_origin</varname>,
<varname>buffer_origin</varname> values are the same, where
<varname>host_ptr</varname> is a pointer to the memory region specified when the
buffer object being written is created with <constant>CL_MEM_USE_HOST_PTR</constant>,
must meet the following requirements in order to avoid undefined behavior:

The host memory region given by (<varname>buffer_origin region</varname>)
contains the latest bits when the enqueued write command begins execution.
</listitem>

The buffer object or memory objects created from this buffer object are
not mapped.
</listitem>

The buffer object or memory objects created from this buffer object are
not used by any command-queue until the write command has finished execution.

<function>clEnqueueWriteBufferRect</function> returns <errorname>CL_SUCCESS</errorname>
if the function is executed successfully. Otherwise, it returns one of the following
errors:

is not a valid host command-queue.

or if the context associated with <varname>command_queue</varname> and events in

<errorname>CL_INVALID_MEM_OBJECT</errorname> if <varname>buffer</varname>
is not a valid buffer object.

specified by (<varname>buffer_origin</varname>, <varname>region</varname>,
<varname>buffer_row_pitch</varname>, <varname>buffer_slice_pitch</varname>)
is out of bounds.
